I wanted a simple one pot dish for dinner tonight and so I googled "how to make porridge with rice cooker recipe" and yours was the third listed (and first proper recipe).

I guess I'm destined to dine on your wonderful recipes! ;)

I'd prolly omit the red cargo rice unless I can find it and substitute some leafy greens for the beans since I'm a big believer of using whatever's in the fridge! :PAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31475215.post-57310587015572461552007-08-18T21:30:00.000-07:002007-08-18T21:30:00.000-07:00amy, hahaha...been a long time since I've had cong...amy, hahaha...been a long time since I've had congee for breakfast. Very artistic it is :)

The type of rice that Cynthia and I often eat is the Thailand brown unpolished rice. And we usually mix it with white rice for the fragrance and texture. You are right, it takes experience. For a 50-50 mix, there is a certain requirement on water level. For a 70(brown)-30 mix, it is again different!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31475215.post-12420684298479700982007-08-17T15:54:00.000-07:002007-08-17T15:54:00.000-07:00Me! Me! I totally agreed with you about cooking rice is based on experience (even with rice cooker!) because brown rice needs a lot more water than white. As you can tell, I learned by experience because my first cooked brown rice was hard leh. Hubby complained of course and said my rice not cooked lah. I like to mix brown and white rice together cause it's healthier (like you lah). I eat long grain rice too because MIL forbid us to eat fragrant rice from Thailand. According to her, it's not good because fragrant was added during the process to make the rice more fragrant. She actually wanted us to eat only brown rice, but I'm mixed both.Little Corner of Minehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09722570387776029291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31475215.post-67916780307370916892007-08-17T14:56:00.000-07:002007-08-17T14:56:00.000-07:00I love brown rice. I just don't eat that much at home and don't have a place to store the bigger bags of jasmine rice.Wandering Chopstickshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04703018765718062460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31475215.post-8840085190853901352007-08-17T13:33:00.000-07:002007-08-17T13:33:00.000-07:00yes i remember eating red/brown rice when i was sm...yes i remember eating red/brown rice when i was small. not so much today, though i like to make black sticky rice porridge :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31475215.post-59957703709123458392007-08-17T13:26:00.000-07:002007-08-17T13:26:00.000-07:00Funny -- I've just been working on a bunch of post...Funny -- I've just been working on a bunch of posts about rice, too. We are not a family of daily rice eaters, but I do love having many varieties of rice on hand for those times when I simply have to have it! We also eat a great deal of packaged rice or rice from a cooker.KellytheCulinarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17157742508302761756noreply@blogger.com
