Shiokingly good Singapore Part 7-Disappointing Prata in Frankel Avenue
Must go Jalan Kayu for prata! Ok...I heard you. But we did not have much time to spare to go all the way to Jalan Kayu, and Frankel Avenue used to have good prata too. Yes, "used to". I'm not sure if the original stall owners have moved. However, the roti prata we had in Frankel Avenue was disappointing. The prata was tasteless and moist, rather than crispy. I prefer my prata to be on the crispy side so that after topping with the curry sauce, it'll not be just one mushy mush in my-bite and-chew. Of course, the curry sauce was also...sigh...no "oomph" in it...and so little.
I like mine plain with a cuppa Kopi-O-kosong, heaven!
ReplyDeleteYeap. The standard at Frankel Ave has dropped a lot.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, koeiru! Have you had your plain prata with Kopi-O-kosong today ? :) Errr....you dip the prata in kopi ? Hahahah....
ReplyDeleteI have no preference for plain prata or those with eggs, but anything fancier...like cheese prata, durian prata...it's simply not PRATA anymore.
Hi DK, tx for popping by my blog. I'm not sure since when the standard has dropped. But I'm very sure I will NOT go back again. Maybe the original stall owners have moved?
The prata kosong at the much acclaimed Cheese Prata Shop near NUS Biz Ad Faculty is also no big deal.
ReplyDeleteMust I really go to Jln Kayu to get crispy prata? :(
Hi Yich, I believe there are other places for prata other than Jln Kayu.
ReplyDeleteThe roti canai @layang layang, or prata at prima is ok, just that SO EXPENSIVE!!!
Warning: The prata at Penang Village is not very good. It's crispy but toooo thin.
ReplyDeleteYa... prata at Layang Layang and Prima are ok. They are considered luxury items. Haha!
