I'm making a big hoo-ha about this because I don't bake! Cakes, cookies, biscuits, bread etc. etc. are never in my kitchen radar. Yes, chicken strudel was baked, but it does not involve any baking flour, castor sugar, yeast or baking powder, thus was quick and easy. No kneading required. Yay! Oh, the no-knead-bread I found in Wandering Chopsticks sure looks easy. But does it mean I have to buy a new loaf pan? Meanwhile, I will stay devoted to my muffin pan.
Can you remember...what did you bake when you first own a muffin pan ? Or what did you recently bake with your muffin pan ?
Looks like I own a muffin pan a tad late. I'm missing out on all these ! Without a well-kept inventory of baking ingredients and tools, I may try bread'ol'muf'vers (new word, meaning old bread in a muffin pan with leftovers - Melting Wok, thanks...I created a new word!) when it's time to clear up the fridge. And yes, I've never eaten cupcakes before. Maybe I could make my own, those with lots of my favorite...dark chocolate...mmmmm. Of course, I do wish one day I could bake like Yuzu Eats, then I could create my own doggie bread or cookie!
I built up my baking confidence this way - bake something which I have already done before, get used to the feel and touch...I have shown you the BIG one, now I will show you the minis! Thanks to my muffin pan!
Mini chicken pie
Ingredients:
-Puff pastry (one puff pastry sheet remaining, after making curry puff and chicken strudel)
-Filling ingredients are same as chicken strudel

U very solid lei! Can find such good deals around. The cheapest I saw for a 12-cup pan was $5.49 but I bought a 6-cup one from Safeway, thinking it will fit into my smaller oven, but woe to me, it didn't fit :(

I haven't baked anything in 4 years but the last time I used the oven, it was a pecan pie. But I used store bought crust.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you really want an easy bake recipe, use this. Go to the store and buy Betty Crocker cake mix and bake some cupcakes. Add cream cheese to make it creamier or nuts. Hmmm! Can you send some cupcake to me in NYC???
teczcape, if you r out of pastry crust thingy, just use old bread. I flatten the old bread, and mold them into the muffin trays, rub bit butter/egg wash (optional),bake for about 3 minutes OR until bit crusty, add varieties of toppings and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes/+/- ie. cheese with tomato sauce and leftover meats and cilantros, green onion chops, tuna, mayo with eggs, etc. It's very easy, and yet delicious, plus, you get cups of different toppings all in 1 muffin tray, hope u like it :)

I don't remember what I first baked. Chances are, it was blueberry muffins from a box. ;) I've had muffin pans since I was a kid, so it's hard to remember.

ReplyDeleteBuy your favorite cake mix, and chocolate frosting to go with it and bake cupcakes! You can't mess up with instant cake mix. Then you'll have tried cupcakes for the very first time. :)
Interesting slide show. The pies look good also. If the slides come with sound, perhaps i can hear the crispy sound from Tigerfish's teeth. Haaaaa.

Oh yes, make those konniyaku jelly..put fruits inside, can even flavor the jelly with tea bag or carrot juice...
I used to make those jellies when I was in Sg but I had to use those plastic molds.
Tigerfish, the chicken pies look like those found in Cottage Pie (?) Can't remember the name of the confectionery... But they have a branch at White Sands in Pasir Ris ...

Damn! I was on leave today, and thot maybe I should give this recipe shot. Went to this shop here called Boon Huat (I think), they have a few branches but the staff then stuck up one and I for pastry puff sheet. Turned out that they dun sell ready made one! The woman told me to make them, I need margarine butter and flour. What a damper!
