Whatever remaining from here and still remaining from there, can be used to make this! Great! Just the right time! Coincidentally, could I make it to the ultimate party?
Moreoever, all the ingredients were found at the "right place" (my fridge), and the "right person" (I, Me!) gonna cook it - Gado-Gado! A traditional dish in Indonesian cuisine - a vegetable salad served with a peanut sauce dressing. Other than Rojak, this is another Asian equivalent to Garden Salad with choice of Ranch or Vinaigrette dressing; or Caesar Salad. The vegetables are of course healthy stuff. But the peanut sauce(look at the oil...errr)...errr....I don't know. Anyway, just eat!
Gado Gado - Vegetables in peanut sauce dressing (serves 2-3)
Ingredients:
-3cups cabbage, shredded
-3cups long beans, cut into 5cm lengths
-2cups baby carrots
-1 medium-size potato, boiled in its skin, then peeled and cubed
-1/2 a block of firm beancurd, cubed and deep-fried
-1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
-1 hard-boiled eggs, halved
-1tsp fried shallots
Method:
-Blanch long beans, carrots and cabbage till just tender (Note: Add the cabbage 5-8mins after the long beans and carrots, since cabbage takes shorter time to cook)
-Heat up the peanut sauce
-Toss all the vegetables in peanut sauce
-Tuck in!
Oh, wait, wait wait...there is one missing ingredient here. Can anybody guess what is it ?
This completed dish can be served at a "right place" (a party!) and to the "right people" (party goers!).

ReplyDeleteAnd what you wrote about cooking being dependent on "the right time, the right place, the right people" ring so true. Sometimes, you juz have no mood. But other times, you can really work up a wok, ya? Hee!

ReplyDeleteas always, sharp and bright! :D

Tigerfish,
ReplyDeleteI did something similar to this peanut sauce for dipping chicken and fish satay skewers. My secret ingredient? A little bit of coconut milk. :)
aiyah, came by too late! :) keropok lor! but omnivore's sharp eyes noticed it first! :) your gado-gado looks really authentic man!
ReplyDeleteWandering Chopsticks, for dipping chicken or fish satay skewers, you could try adding some pineapple cubes to the peanut sauce. I may try the coconut milk version next time. Thx!
ReplyDeleteShilpa, yup! I believe you would have known too. :D You and me are both "cracker" lovers ya ? You love Doritos whereas me....potato chips.
ReplyDeleteActually, Gado Gado has no carrots, right ? But I have leftovers, so I added them in. Plus keropok and maybe tau geh, then it's truely authentic. You can try it if you make Sayur Lodeh again :)
OH, this all looks YUMMY! Thanks for letting me come to your party!
ReplyDeleteOooh! I have forgotten about gado-gado...haven't had it in such a long time (since our favorite Indonesian restaurant closed....sob!). Your post just reminded me! And now I'm thinking I'll just make it myself :)

ReplyDeleteMing Merciless, I can't remember there is peanut garnish for Gado Gado. Thot it's Rojak. Can you get good satay sauce in NY ?
ReplyDeleteWok and Spoon, can you get satay sauce(as authentic as Malaysia) in France ?
Shilpa, I can't remember when was the last time I had gado gado before I cooked this dish too. :P But I still don't think there are carrots.
ReplyDeleteWhat!? The Sayur Lodeh you made that last time is still in your freezer? You sure can keep that long in the freezer since there is coconut milk? Or you made some sayur lodeh again quite recently?
