A Banquet in Stone - "Food" for Feast

Can you believe...THIS is totally made out of stones? It looks so real to me that I can eat them in one mouthful.

Came across this Banquet in Stone exhibition, currently take place in Singapore. I would love to visit this exhibition but I can't since I'm physically not there. Meantime, I can only take a virtual tour. Do check out this gallery of amazing pictures or rather, fascinating creations where stones are carved into food and dishes.

For those who are interested to visit, it's happening at
National Museum of Singapore@A Banquet in Stone
National Museum, Balcony (Level 2)
19th June – 12th August 2007
10am – 9pm, daily
Free admission

  1. I've been deceived! :P

When I saw the photo and you said "This is totally made out of stones", I thought to myself, can it really be eaten? How did they soften the stone? What did they stuff inside the stone?

Ok, ok....I've either gullible or stupid! So real, so edible looking! So, so.....so......mmmmmmm.....looks like the texture of 'mua chi'.

  2. I totally thought that was edible like a dim sum pastry or something hehe. I looked at the website for the museum and all of it looks so good at first glance. Then I had to remind myself that they're rocks!

  4. judy, when I first look at the pictures...some appeared really fake but some were "carved" so artistically! Ya ya, think look like mochi! :p

jadedone, if you really eat them, all your teeth will fall off...wahahah! LOL!

east meets west, I can't make out the specifics too! I wish they have named the actual dishes they were trying to replicate.

  6. I had went for it. Some of the stones looked as if they were real food.

Don't be deceived, else one would end up with broken teeth. ;)

The exhibition even includes write-up on the food, and properties of the stones.

Eastcoastlife: Heal first. Actually the exhibition is quite small-scale. If you do visit the National Museum of Singapore, do check out other exhibitions too.
