Singapore cuisine and sandwich - an easy choice ?

Merlion restaurant just opened in Cupertino. We walked away after taking a peep at the menu, and decided we should just eat sandwiches from Eriks Deli Cafe, right across Merlion.

Raging Bull sandwich -Roast Beef, Mild Green Chili Peppers and Pepper Jack Cheese, heated on a Peppered Onion Roll, with Red Onions,Tomatoes and Sprouts

R.E.O.Speedwagon -Smoked Ham, Turkey Breast and Monterey Jack Cheese, loaded on Sliced Sourdough, with Red Onions,Tomatoes and Sprouts

We don't think we regretted our choice. Take a look at the Merlion menu and let me know what you would do if you were me. :p

  1. I will order the stuffed you tieo! Love that appertizer! Actually the price is pretty similar here. The seafood hor fun here is $10.95. Pineapple rice, curry laksa are all $9.95. Pricy compared to Chinese food. And for $10.95, I can go eat Chinese buffet with unlimited amount of sushi, shrimps, crabs, clams, etc.

  3. I saw the ad in the Wave mag and thought we'd try it out sometime. But then it's not getting great reviews on Yelp so maybe we'll pass.

BTW, the website is http://www.merlion.us , not www.merlionrestaurant.com like you posted in your entry.

  4. The menu looks good to me. It's just fusion usually doesn't taste as good as it sounds. :P

  5. little corner of mine, soooo expensive hor...I would rather go back to HK/Chinese and
    eat roast meat rice/noodles for $6.95 :p
(btw, I posted the wrong menu earlier on, now take a look at the menu and tell me what you think)

    kelly, both were good!

nate 2.0, I would rather be back in Layang Layang to try Malaysian food, and Thai Basil for Thai food, and Vung Tau for Viet food.
Or maybe Prima for Sg food (btw, Merlion and Prima are owned by the same person, if I'm not wrong)
I don't feel authentically Singapore cuisine though they had 2 Merlions outside their restaurant.
    Well, let's see.
Oh, and thank you for pointing out the correct website.I've had it changed :D

wandering chopsticks, I was not looking for fusion food right in front of the Merlion, that's why. ;)

  7. When i am in Australia, I would rather eat from the sandwich shops (like subway ) than from the Asian takeaways or restaurants. Just not authentic!

  8. Oh man, this new menu, I definitely won't pay to eat it! I don't like this fusion food at all. If I go to a Singapore restaurant, I want Singapore food, not fusion food, what are they thinking? Unless of course they wanted to attract American customers. You definitely made a right choice not to eat there, fusion food not shiok lah.

  10. pea, you made me want to eat that sandwich now, for supper!!! I'm hungry, so I don't mind sandwiches or any other food.

    SAHM, EXACTLY!

Little corner of mine, I was thinking of that too! That's why I walked away, without any interest.
The merlion raise my hopes and the menu dampened it!

east meets west, hahaha...that's why I took a photo of it. Great minds think alike :D

  11. I love, love, love alfalfa sprouts!

The first time I ever had it was when I came to NYC in 1996 for a conference (before I moved up here). I ordered a chicken salad sandwich at a Times Square deli and it came with the alfalfa sprouts in it. Since then, these little veggies have a special place in my heart. :-)

  12. Looking at the menu, I wouldn't want to eat the food too. Expensive and probably not authentic. I also would prefer Char siu or roast duck rice over those.

    I can't see the photos wor. :(

  13. ming merciless, it's the first time I have alfafa sprouts in a sandwich!!! Can you believe it?
And now they have a special place in my heart too :D

ECL, I would also go for something non-SIngapore than something that is supposed-to-be-but-not Singaporean.
How come cannot see? Blogger problem or sloooowww uploading of photos?

PS - I haven't posted on my blog in a while. I think I'm going through the same thing that you and Wandering Choppy was earlier!

  21. Not a vacation, I just haven't been "feeling" the whole blog thing lately. I think it's called being lazy and not inspired hehe.

  22. Errr...."Roti Prata 6.95
Fritters with sweet and chili sauce" What's that?? hehehe..... The sandwiches looks awesome!!

  23. jadedone, hahha, the lazy buggy is still in me. I know that feeling.

blur mommy, so expensive, right? Samosa also 6.95. I can buy 3 samosas for SGD1, back in Sg (but that's few years ago, with the inflation and GST increase, maybe it's 2bucks now) but still cheaper, right? :p
