Personally for me, it is minimal seasoning when it comes to salmon. Fresh spices and herbs will do.
I used to season with sea salt and fresh black pepper. I still do...but more often now, pinch of cumin and fennel before I send this fish to steam, bake or grill. .
Salmon must be one of the easiest fish to cook. Simply less than 10 minutes and this fish never fails to impress

I also like really simple, grilled salmon. But I have to shake up my salmon pallet too, and I throw it in the oven with some real, organic BBQ sauce. Super quick and low-maintenance, I just posted on the topic myself.
ReplyDeletesalmon is such an oily, tasty fish, if you have a fresh fillet, the best thing to do with it is to do very little. i love salmon
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you that it's so easy to cook salmon. It's one of my favourite fish. I cook it very often. I love to cook teriyaki salmon...really delicious.
ReplyDeleteI love salmon and so easy cook. I usually pan fry it with herbs like yours and add some wasabi cream on it.
ReplyDeleteSuprisingly, I don't fancy Salmon that much. I prefer tuna and cod... But I do tend to agree with you, if you have a good slab of fish steak, minimal seasoning is best.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more.
ReplyDeleteA pinch of salt and pepper will do, bring up the flavour of salmon. Sometimes season with a bit of herbs that would make a change in taste. Like cooking salmon very much, easy and healthy.
What a waste, I'm not a Salmon lover. :(
ReplyDeleteI like the fresh salmon simply prepared and cooked as they taste usually the best when done simple.
ReplyDeleteYour salmon shot look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't like to cook fish at home, the smell bothers me; but the salmon is easy and versatile and does well on the grill!
ReplyDeleteThe salmon looks so fresh!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves salmon and I make it quite often. Who's going to say no to a chile when their favorite meal is salmon, steamed brocoli and rice? I used to just use Goya's Mojo Marinade and put it on the George Forman Grill for 4 1/4 minutes and it was done. Now that I got the timing of the cooking right I can throw it on the grill or in the oven and I know how long before it's over cooked. My daughter still likes the mojo. On our half I like to use a little dill, tarragon, dijon or lemon, caper sauce. There are so many good ways to use this fish. We love it.
ReplyDeleteTigerfish,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your view on minimal seasoning when you have a star ingredient. Let the star shines through :-)
I treat steak the same way too.
Salmon's probably my favorite fish!
ReplyDeleteI like it plain with light salt/pepper seasoning but I often like to make up a teriyaki sauce and bake then broil it.
Yum!
Niki, BBQ-sauce? I actually don't hear that on salmon very often...or am I just ignorant? ;p
ReplyDeleteAmy, oh yes..how true.
Mary, I know you cook it quite often. Seen them many times in your blog. I would like to cook it as often if salmon was not so expensive.

Angie, looks like we have all in agreement for salmon ;)
Sonia, that was before I sent it to steam. No time to take photos after that cos warm salmon is the best time to eat salmon :)...unless it is sashimi.
ReplyDeletetasteofbeirut, oops!
LCOM, in SGP, usually from Norway. But in Wholefoods, I usually get those wild caught from Alaska. Also very good, even not better!
Lyndsey, what a good child to want to eat such nutritious healthy meal :) ...I guess as adults, we prefer the herbs and spices thing. Kids=sauce, right?
Tuty, yes!
Dave, guess teriyaki is one popular way too! But I don't have this sauce stocked at home. Too bad...
I'm a lazy cook so it's salt, pepper and herbs for me too. with maybe a knob of butter. You really like to use Indian spices these days hehe
ReplyDeleteYep, it's always good as long as it is fresh! I usually just do salt and pepper but cumin and fennel sound interesting. Just had a fantastic piece of salmon the other day in Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteI love salmon and I use all the above spices but also add some dried coriander, mustard seeds and sea salt.
ReplyDeletewiffy, heh heh....I cook a lot of chinese and some indian food at home :D ..home-eating mah, so it's ok.

ReplyDeleteI like salmon with no seasoning at all. I like it sashimi style mmmm.

ReplyDeleteMy family loves grilled salmon. I usually marinated with for a bit in lemon juice, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Love the flavor.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to add some spices to the Salmon. It tastes great. I usually steam Salmon with tomato and some ginger too - I sprinkle some small pieces of ginger on the Salmon and put the tomato beneath the fish.
