During my first visit to the stall, I was rather overwhelmed, the urge to put every single variety into my grocery basket. But I can't! Self-control...self-control...keep to the budget...the grocery budget...or I might jolly well be spending over $50 at just one same stall, in a single trip.
Overwhelmed the first visit but definitely more decisive on my second visit the week after, I went straight for the two punnets for $7 "deal of the day" - a punnet of organic baby shittake mushrooms + a punnet of organic tree oyster mushrooms.
With a very mild earthy (less earthy than the larger-cap shiitake mushrooms) flavor, these organic baby shiitake mushrooms cook fast and easy. They come together wonderfully with garlic in a delicious stir-fry.
Baby Shiitake Mushrooms Stir-Fry 鲜香菇清炒塔菇菜
Ingredients:
1 bunch (about 2-3 handfuls) of Asian leafy greens, roughly chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, finely minced
1tbsp carrot matchsticks
1 small punnet organic baby shiitake mushrooms
Salt and ground white pepper to taste
Directions: Saute carrots and garlic in a little cooking oil. Add the mushrooms and lightly saute till the mushrooms are tender. Add the leafy greens (stems first, then leaves), mix with mushrooms. Lower heat, cover the pot/pan and allow the steam to cook the greens.
Isn't that so fresh, inviting and delicious?
