Sayur Lodeh-Mixed Vegetables in Coconut Gravy, is surely good with steamed rice, but you can also add in compressed rice cakes (a.ka. ketupat) to savor the gravy as soup - Lontong! - a yellowish soup mix of vegetables with ketupat.
Enjoy homemade lontong with a mix of carbo - rice; proteins - eggs, long beans & beancurd/tofu; and fiber - the vegetables, plus the vitamins associated with the spicy chilli. MmmMmmMmmMmmMmmmmmm.............

Wah say! Your service is very good! Where did you buy this ketupat? I saw ketupat in Ranch 99, but the packaging looked different and the rice "cubes" were smaller.
ReplyDeleteThe lontong looks yum! I am drooling over it :)
ReplyDeletesimcooks, better service than what you get in the US of A,or not? :P
ReplyDeleteThis is also from R99(where else?)...where did you see it since you memorize all the aisle liow? Found this somewhere at the aisle facing the fish/crab stations. One corner where you can find lotsa of Malaysian stuff-ketupat and even belacan blocks! This pack comes with 2 rice packs(to be boiled, of course!). 1 rice pack can be cut into 8 blocks of this size. Actually, can use normal rice also, then pressed them in a square/rect tupperware and fridge it to "harden" them. At first when I bought I thought was something "special-instant" (to save me the hassle of making my own) until I opened up the pack, and saw-HAARR? rice contained in a "special" plastic material that can withstand high heat while boiling...??? Lucky not expensive (less than $1 for 2 rice packs)
Hi lin, thanks for dropping by, and I'm glad to "serve" you lontong at this time :D For a moment, I thought I was goin' to lose another avenue to savour more AsianEats. Hope to "visit" you soon!
ReplyDeleteYes yes... the aisle with the belachan blocks! What I saw was also a packet to be boiled in water. Maybe I thot the cubes are small but they are actually same as yours. I dunno. I made my own ketupat before but the pandan taste was not strong enough so I will try this when I am back.
ReplyDeletei like the litte image so cute. food looks delish!
ReplyDeletetiger, is your kitchen open ? hehe, oh goddd, that reminds me I've got another piece of lontong sitting in the freezer, ok ok, I'll whip up some satay sauce up & eat with that, thanks :)
