Shiokingly good Singapore (Season2) Part 8 - Yong Tau Foo, normal or ampang ? ~ End of Season 2~

I love love love this ! It claims to be the only one in Singapore to serve Malacca-style yong tau foo with thick noodles ladled with a thick minced-pork gravy. Don't ask for plain rice to go with this, they don't serve it!

Well known for the Ampang-style Yong Tau Foo.

  2. The thick gravy that's poured on the yong tau foo must be good, huh? I like the look of the noodles with minced meat too. I suppose it's not too oily?

  6. Aiyayah... tigerfish... why must you always tempt us like that! I juz had my dinner (time check 1934H in Singapore), but you made me hungry all over again!

There're a few stalls near Thomson (opposite Nee Soon Camp) that serve Yong Tau Foo like these .... Nice but also quite ex.

  8. koeiru, I almost forgotten the laksa version. I seldom eat laksa yong tau foo coz' I'll be too busy with all the ingredients and flavors going on!:O

  9. Lyrical lemongrass, yes, the gravy on the yong tau foo is good (I can't lie to you and say it's not oily at all). Most of the oil came from the deep-fried yong tau foo. Not the gravy itself. The noodles with minced meat is not oily. I love it!
Chor bee hoon with minced meat is almost like spaghetti bolognese (chinese style!)...kekeke

  11. Chris, the Ampang Yong Tau Foo at Nee Soon still there meh ? I remember the corner coffee shop that serves Ampang YTF. Only got chance to eat once or twice when my bro was at NeeSoon camp for reservist. This one(at Siglap) and the Nee Soon YTF taste completely different.

  13. Ooooh, that looks so good. And why no rice? That gravy would be excellent spooned over rice.

  14. Here by way of the blogging party!

  15. Wandering Chopsticks, puzzles me too! Perhaps it's a kind of "food culture" if it's really Malacca-style Yong Tau Foo. Or the owners just wanted to keep it "real"...that it should be thick noodles and nothing but thick noodles. ;p

  17. The meat stuffed bitter gourd looks good. Ditto the whole dish. Is the noodle & sauce a little too much for the tofu and veggies? I would love the dish with white rice. Maybe I'll bring my own bowl of white rice to the restaurant. :-)

  18. tiger, seriously, how long were you gone home for again ??? You've a very very good metabolic rate mannnn !!! *salute* my goddd, this is the kind of yong tow foo I like, brown sauce, I am really drooling over that squarish tofu beancurd thingy !! arrghhh :P Definitely no need of rice here for me :)

  19. oh, the yong tau foo of this shop is good but the owners are so arrogant. I swear never to step into their shop after an unpleasant incident!

You were in the East all the time you were in Singapore? geez, you were so near my house.......

  20. mind merciless, you take bittergourd? It's just a small bowl of noodles (sometimes, one bowl may not even be enough if you're hungry). For tofu and veggies, it's up to you how many pieces you want. It can be a larger portion as you like it :D

  21. MW, I only bac for 5 days ;p, and ate a lot, oh man! I don't need rice as well ;o . Not so common to get "brown sauce" yong tau foo in S'pore(other than Ampang style). It's usually yong tau foo with some kind of red sauce (sweet) and chilli sauce, plus sesame seeds.

  22. ECL, is that it? The owner is a old ah pek right? The ah pek is quite friendly. But I think the son or whoever is the boss lah. What incident, what? Tell me!

Yes, mostly in the east. Time is short so have to make full use of time to eat what! ;p

  27. Not sure how the shop was in 2007. Went there this year and they have a 'no pork, no lard' policy. Gravy for the rice noodles was five spice, mushroom and chicken.
