ReplyDeleteThere're a few stalls near Thomson (opposite Nee Soon Camp) that serve Yong Tau Foo like these .... Nice but also quite ex.

ReplyDeleteLyrical lemongrass, yes, the gravy on the yong tau foo is good (I can't lie to you and say it's not oily at all). Most of the oil came from the deep-fried yong tau foo. Not the gravy itself. The noodles with minced meat is not oily. I love it!

Chris, the Ampang Yong Tau Foo at Nee Soon still there meh ? I remember the corner coffee shop that serves Ampang YTF. Only got chance to eat once or twice when my bro was at NeeSoon camp for reservist. This one(at Siglap) and the Nee Soon YTF taste completely different.

ReplyDeleteWandering Chopsticks, puzzles me too! Perhaps it's a kind of "food culture" if it's really Malacca-style Yong Tau Foo. Or the owners just wanted to keep it "real"...that it should be thick noodles and nothing but thick noodles. ;p

ReplyDeleteThe meat stuffed bitter gourd looks good. Ditto the whole dish. Is the noodle & sauce a little too much for the tofu and veggies? I would love the dish with white rice. Maybe I'll bring my own bowl of white rice to the restaurant. :-)

ReplyDeletemind merciless, you take bittergourd? It's just a small bowl of noodles (sometimes, one bowl may not even be enough if you're hungry). For tofu and veggies, it's up to you how many pieces you want. It can be a larger portion as you like it :D
ReplyDeleteMW, I only bac for 5 days ;p, and ate a lot, oh man! I don't need rice as well ;o . Not so common to get "brown sauce" yong tau foo in S'pore(other than Ampang style). It's usually yong tau foo with some kind of red sauce (sweet) and chilli sauce, plus sesame seeds.

ReplyDeleteNot sure how the shop was in 2007. Went there this year and they have a 'no pork, no lard' policy. Gravy for the rice noodles was five spice, mushroom and chicken.
