What is this? Giveaway Day = Labor Day ? In the US, we "labor" in the month of September but in some parts of the world such as Singapore, we "labor" on May Day which is...May 1st. Meaning...we take a day off from work to blog and take part in giveaways. ^o^

ReplyDeleteSounds easy and fast using the rice cooker. But my Sony rice cooker really cooks fast...the rice can be cooked within 10 mins.

My rice cooker is broken and I am doing some research to see what I want to buy next. (So this is perfect for me, I'm stopping back often to check what everyone says about their rice cooker) I had mine for years and used it often and loved it. When it stopped cooking (it would still warm up just not cook) my husband took it apart and now...nothing.

Rice cooker, can't live without one, mine is the conventional Panasonic which i use to cook rice and some assortment of one pot meal etc rice pot chicken rice, chicken rice.

I own a rice cooker but its sensor doesn't really work anymore and so I have to guess when the rice is done. It still makes life way easier than cooking rice on the stove though. Awesome giveaway! And excellent shrimp fritters!
ReplyDeleteI sure own a rice cooker, but not fuzzy logic. Just the usual two buttons. I use it to cook porridge more often than rice though. :)

ReplyDeleteVery delicious shrimp cakes. I like them...my favourite. I only use rice cookers when I have parties. Normal days I cook rice in my cooking pot.

ReplyDeleteI have a rice cooker and use it only sometimes at home. i cook my rice on the stove top except when I am going out and want the rice done when i come back home. But I have used my cooker to cook all kinds of things, including curries and noodles and pseudo stir fries.. ;-D (had taken it once for a long vacation and could not do without it). The cakes looks good.

ReplyDeleteLord, I am having rice cooker withdrawal! I had to leave my rice cooker at home because I traveled too far away and since it is a temporary move, it doesn't make sense at the moment to purchase a new one. My rice cooker uses the fuzzy logic method and it really cooks everything perfectly. It saved me in college and made my Asian roommate fall in love with me. I don't even want to tell you how much white rice we ate in a year...
ReplyDeleteI have the basic on/off rice cooker. I use it mostly to make rice. But I have used it to make risotto and polenta quite effectively. I also use it to steam artichokes perfectly. ;)

ReplyDeleteHow I agree with you. My move here and there the past few years has really deprived me of fully stocking my pantry and...buying "permanent" appliances. However, where ever I was, I bought a rice cooker from the local stores, if able to. Sometimes, it just don't make sense to "move" the rice cooker - especially when you reach your destination and BUMMER ! Incompatible voltage!

ReplyDeleteHeeeee Haaawww.....I have been staying faithful to on/off rice cookers really and not thinking of changing anytime soon. Can do so many things in them ;) ...maybe you can steam the artichokes while you cook rice at the same time? Do you do that? Rice filled with artichoke aroma....

ReplyDeletemy rice cooker is the cheapo S$30 no brand type... bought it simply becoz it's small hehe ... but so far so good ... I use it to cook rice but maybe after reading your cookbook, I'll have more uses for it lol

ReplyDeleteWe have the conventional 2 button- cook and warm function rice cooker. Let's see, I use it around2-3 times a week but have tried making porridge, glutinous rice, steam veges, steam bao, oh oh and even tried using it as a steam boat (To put the stock it) before! hahaha. it is truly a handy cooker!!

ReplyDeleteI know a friend who does the same. She brings the rice cooker with her when she travels so that she can cook in the hotel room. But she was a student then - so it was more like a budget trip, saving on meals.

ReplyDeleteI just stumbled on your site from tastespotting. i am so glad as I was thinking if there were other dishes I could make in my rice cooker I got from the thrift store for $10. I always make rice and it helps a lot especially now that I am a new mom.

ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by. Yes...you can do lots with the rice cooker...but of course, not all dishes are "press of a button" cooking. Most of them still need "eyeballing" and control. But it just shows how versatile the rice cooker is.
This food looks yummy. My mouth is filled with water after see images above. I think that to cook with slow cooker is more good to cook than in simple cooker.
ReplyDeletemine is a simple 2-button rice cooker. I recently discovered a fuzzy logic in a supermarket in this tiny rural town I'm living in (Indonesian Borneo) but for now, I'm really happy with what my rice cooker can do. I've cooked fish, squid, spinach, etc.. in it! I'm thinking of 'broasting' chicken in it - I have some ideas but have yet to try it. I also love my little oven that I use more often than my rice cooker!
