Steamed Rockfish

I have given this big-eyed vivid-red fish a miss few times in our nearby Japaneses supermarket. For a small-sized fish, its eyes are intimidatingly huge.

I mustered enough courage to pick them up recently. I just have to try it for once, even not knowing what to do with it at point of purchase. But with all fresh fish, steaming is the way to go, so I did.

When I brought the fish home, the first reaction from the other one was "what's this ugly fish?". So this fish gets another negative shot, huh? It just became ugly. This fish is sure getting bad reputation; but interestingly, its flavor and texture is not as bad.

Steamed Rockfish
Ingredients:
2 small rockfish , about 0.3lbs each
2 green onions
1tsp minced ginger
1tsp soy sauce
1tbsp sake
1tsp sesame oil
dash of white pepper

Directions: Place all ingredients on a plate, and steam 10-15 mins.

A mild flavored fish,  the texture is on the soft-side almost "melt in the mouth", just the contrary of its name "rock" fish.
