Corn Silk Tea

4 for $1. 5 for $1, even 8 for $1! That's summer  - bounty of fresh corn on the cob (and strawberries, blueberries, peaches, nectarines, apricots etc.).

Occasionally, I husk the corn - remove and discard the layered leaves and corn silk at the grocery stores (since the stores provide bins to contain the "waste") so that at home, I am saved from the chore of cleaning - picking up those string-like, silky fibers that tend to "stick" to the kitchen counter-top, and sink (where the corn is husked). Even when I do line the counter-top with paper to contain the "waste" , there is bound to be few strands of stringy fibers lying around in the sink, and worse, on the kitchen floor! There is no way to get not messy.

Wait a minute. "Waste"? Corn silk is not waste.

Do you know? These golden fibers found at the end of the corn is a source of plant sterols as well as beta-carotene, riboflavin, selenium, niacin; and can be made into corn silk tea which offers health benefits such as boosting digestion,  regulating glucose levels in the body and preventing high cholesterol.

Enjoy this healthful, light-tasting, slightly-earthy, subtly-sweet corn silk tea.

Golden Milk

As the name implies, this milk has turned golden with the use of turmeric. It has also turned "golden" because milk is now more precious, worth many anti-inflammatory benefits.

An Ayurvedic tradition - Golden Milk is a tonic that is meant to be nourishing, and good-tasting at the same time. Do you know that the compound - piperine found in black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric? Don't forget its black pepper partner in harmony the next time you use turmeric in curries, pilafs, or even a salad dressing.

Apple Celery Carrot Cantaloupe Chunky Juice

Occasionally, when things get too perfect, it may not be too good since it becomes too artificial. But if it is naturally perfect, then it is ok.

This juice is not as smooth (appealing) as commercial juices. Chunky because I did not filter the juice blend and discard the fibrous residue of the fruits after blending them in my Ninja Master Prep. I bought The Ninja Master Prep, three months ago from Costco. It was placed side-by-side the Magic Bullet but I recalled the Ninja Master Prep recommendation from Rasa Malaysia some time back, and decided to go with the expert. ^o^ . No regrets since I have been using my ONLY blender (cum food processor) to make fresh fruit (and veggie) smoothies. To me, smoothie makes it easier for me to adopt raw food as part of regular diet.

What did I make this time? Appcantacarelyorarasp Juice! Try pronouncing that! Ha ha....
I use: Apple (in season right now!). Cantaloupe (almost out of season soon). Carrot. Celery. Orange. Frozen raspberries.

Kale-Melon-Berry Yogurt Popsicles

The last ice popsicle this summer?

For me, personally, these kale ice pops (popsicles) are better than kale chips. I usually make smoothie out of kale and other fruits but decided to make some yogurt-based kale ice popsicles one day.

This is a slight deviation from Dr. Oz Green Monster Drink.  What did I use (or deviate):

Cook's Note: Learn to read your yogurt label. Make sure the major components in your yogurt are Milk and Live Cultures. I do not like aspartame (and/or other sweeteners) in my yogurt. Honey is ok but other sweeteners, preferably not. Also, I do not like low-fat dairies (low-fat milk taste like water! don't you think so?). I enjoy my whole milk and plain whole milk yogurt. :)  oops!

Smoothie Radish, Kiwi, Mango, Melon, Wheatgrass 小麦草

A Wheatgrass Tray. Raw food for living.

Caught sight of this at nearby grocery store one day and just attempted to get it. Impulsive shopping. Ha. The only thing coming to my mind is to juice it or ...maybe...smoothie it?

Wheatgrass 小麦草 contains a wide range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids and enzymes. It cleanses and builds your blood (detoxification), fights infections; and has other benefits that, well....the grass offers.

Smoothie of the Day: Cantaloupe, Mango, Radish, Kiwi, Wheatgrass, Yogurt, Milled Flax Seeds (optional)

And talking about cantaloupe, my Cantaloupe Roast Cornish Game Hen recipe won myself a $60 CSNStores gift certificate at Momgateway Blog. Thank you, Momgateway and the judges. It is like - I have so many things I wanted to buy before winning this voucher; but now I have this gift code, I don't know what to buy! Oh...Shopping!

And my smoothie trail continues...
