Pan-Fried Smelt Fish (with Roe)

Shishamo (Smelt Fish with Roe), a Japanese delicacy usually grilled or fried whole, when served in Japanese restaurants. This delicacy can be quite addictive if you enjoy fish roe. If you are not the diner who easily gets squeamish over fish head, and fuss about fish bones (in this case, smelt bones are very soft and not prickly) - you will find that it is super easy to enjoy this fish - deep-fried, pan-fried, oven-grilled or oven-roasted.

I pan-fried these smelt fish like how I have done it for sardines (recipe: Pan-Fried Sardines) and yellow croaker fish (recipe: Pan-Fried Yellow Croaker). Pan-Fried Smelt Fish is so delicious that no bones will be left. Good news! No food wastage. Better news! Great source of calcium.

Oven-Baked Tempeh Green Beans

Tempeh with Green Beans is a must-order side-dish whenever I visit Muslim/Halal food stalls. With other side-dishes e.g. curry vegetables, begedil, sambal kangkong - they pair so well with rice.

Following this fry/stir-fry method, I am trying the oven-method today to prepare this meatless protein entree, that can be best enjoyed with salad or veggie bowls e.g. Tempeh Veggie Bowl.

Cabbage, Woodear Mushrooms Salad

The major difference between this Cabbage, Woodear Mushrooms Salad and the regular raw veggie salad is: these finely julienned/thinly sliced vegetables (including the mushrooms) are blanched to cook - vegetables become warm, tender and infuses deeper with sesame oil-based dressing.

Oven Tofu/ Beancurd Skin Yuba Rolls

Soy/tofu skin, also known as yuba, is the "skin" (coagulated proteins) that forms at the surface of soy milk as the milk boils and cooks. Due to this process, yuba is a good concentrated source of plant-protein, calcium, iron and other essential vitamins and minerals. Tofu skin is available fresh and dried. Personally, I prefer the fresh ones and use them in these easy recipes e.g. Yuba Salad and Braised Yuba.

Today, this Easy Oven-Baked Tofu Skin Rolls is a fuss-free recipe that skips the deep-frying yet still allows you to enjoy toasty slightly crispy bean curd rolls.
